My husband, Rob, and I were married in 1997, beginning our new walks with Christ as we were beginning our life together.   God laid the desire on us to become part of a ministry, and soon we were serving in music and youth ministry at our church.  As we became more deeply involved in ministry, God kept urging us to go deeper.  I came up with all the usual arguments:  we aren’t trained, aren’t talented enough, we don’t have the necessary time.  But God kept insisting.

Finally, at 2 o’clock in the morning in February of 2004, while in prayer, I gave in.  I gave God everything I had, which wasn’t much.  While my husband was a gifted teacher and speaker, I was not.  But I had a willingness to be used, in whatever capacity He had for me.  That was a turning point for me.  I awoke the next night at 4 a.m. with a song going through my head.  I tried to go back to sleep, but couldn’t rid myself of the song.  God has often spoken to me through music, but this wasn’t a song I remembered hearing before.  Finally, I got up and wrote what was in my head:  two verses and a chorus, complete with music.

God had given me the first of many songs.   I knew this was miraculous.  I had no training and had never written a song in my life.  For two years, I continued to write music which just poured out of me.  When I had a file cabinet drawer full, I knew I could no longer keep to myself what God had given me.  I was introduced to an incredibly gifted pianist, arranger, composer, and producer.  Steve Rue had the vision and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit to turn the music into the finished pieces that appear on the CD.

While we were just getting started on the CD in August 2006, an unexpected and tragic church split caused our lives to be turned upside down.  But God had other plans for us,  and led Steve Rue, my husband, Rob,  and I  to help start a new church located in the Wild West World theme park!  God led us all to serve in music and youth ministry, while continuing to write music together.

It’s been an amazing eight months since Summit Church was born, and we’ve seen miracle after miracle in our own lives and ministries for our obedience.   God has continued to expand and bless our ministries.  We are so excited about what God is doing in our lives.

I am blessed to be married to my best friend.  It is rare to find a man so in tune with God that he completes you in every way.  It has been my greatest pleasure to spend the last ten years alongside Rob.  We have weathered tragedy, enjoyed the highs of life, learned from each other, completed each other, and fought at each other’s side for the cause of Christ.

We own a small ranch outside Wichita, KS, where we raise our two daughters, Katherine and Reagan, along with the required horses, turkeys, geese, goats, sheep, and chickens.  We farm a little, and have been renovating our 1880’s farmstead for a decade (we’re almost done!).

Rob is an emergency medicine physician in Wichita.  We began a new phase in our lives eight months ago when Summit Church was born.  We now spend a good portion of our time in ministry.  We have about thirty teens in our youth ministry, and ten other staff members who work alongside us.  God has given us a passion for reaching the lost through music, and for shepherding our youth.

{ ABOUT STEVE }
Steven Rue came to me by way of a mutual friend after much lament and prayer for the right arranger.  When I first began working with Steve, I was struck by his enthusiasm, positive demeanor, and musical brilliance.  Steve’s primary language is music; he only learned English as a child to be able to communicate with the rest of us. He caught the vision of this project from the first moment and was a driving force to its successful completion.  He is a wonderfully quirky man and a true friend and brother in Christ.

Steve is the worship pastor at Summit Church where we attend in Park City, KS.  He has had a long career in music and theatre, including writing music and lyrics for the 1994 off-Broadway play “Ram in the Thicket," and arranging for the national tour of “Godspell” for the Theatre League.

Steve is an accomplished writer, producer, arranger, and pianist who has combined his talents with his faith to fulfill his divine calling.  Most importantly, he is a devoted husband to his wife, Beverly, and the proud father of five beautiful daughters.
